WHY WE LIKE IT

The Grillo in bag-in-box by Porta del Vento is a savory and mineral white that reflects the land it comes from: Sicily. Perfect to serve throughout the meal, from appetizers to main courses, from shrimp in pink sauce to baked sea bream, from fried calamari to spaghetti with clams. Not a fan of fish? Try it with toasted bread and artichoke pâté or bread and panelle, ta-da!

Porta del Vento

Porta del Vento is a well-known name in Sicilian artisanal wine, recognized both inside and outside the borders of our country for its meticulous enhancement of the island's indigenous grape varieties. It was in 2005 when Marco Sferrazzo decided to purchase the estate in Camporeale and start his personal winemaking project, which has now become his full-time work. We first met Marco at Vini di Vignaioli in Fornovo, and we are excited to offer a selection of his wines in bag-in-box format, which he had never packaged before.

The Porta del Vento winery is located in Camporeale, in the Valdibella area, in the province of Palermo, in a paradisiacal region for vine cultivation. Here, the bush-trained vineyards, caressed by a gentle and constant breeze, grow over 600 meters above sea level on sandy and calcareous soils of marine origin, with visible fossils at the surface. An ideal microclimate for the vine, characterized by light, fresh air, and temperature fluctuations between day and night, allows for a better concentration of aromas in the grapes and, consequently, a greater olfactory intensity in the wine.

Making wine at Porta del Vento is simple and ancestral. In the vineyard, organic and biodynamic farming practices are employed, with chemicals banned and weeding done manually to fully respect the environment and preserve biodiversity. The harvest is manual, and once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are touched as little as possible: spontaneous fermentations are activated solely by indigenous yeasts, and large concrete containers are preferred for vinification. Only the indigenous varieties of the area are cultivated and refined, primarily Grillo and Nerello Mascalese, but also Catarratto and Perricone.
